Cheltenham complete signing of free-agent defender Tomkinson.

Cheltenham Town have bolstered their defensive options with the signing of former Norwich City defender Jonathan Tomkinson on a contract running until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old American, who has represented the United States at youth level, joins the League Two side as a free agent following his release from Norwich in May, ending a six-year spell with the Canaries.

During his time at Carrow Road, Tomkinson made one Championship appearance and gained valuable experience through loan spells at Stevenage, Bradford City, and most recently Ross County, where he featured 13 times in the Scottish Premiership earlier this year.

He becomes the second free agent to sign for Cheltenham since Steve Cotterill was appointed manager last month. The club recently brought in Ben Stevenson, a former Cambridge United midfielder, on a deal lasting until the end of the season with an option to extend for another year.

Cheltenham Town currently sit just one point above the League Two relegation zone as they look to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the campaign.
