Police at the Divisional Headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Amasaman have begun a full-scale investigation into the kidnapping of a man identified as Dennis Ansong, who was abducted by unknown assailants at Nsakina late last month.
According to a police incident report signed by DSP Stephen P. Dapaah, the case was filed by the victim’s brother, Eugene Okyere Yeboah, of Mayera near Pokuase. The complainant reported that on August 28, 2025, at about 8:00 p.m., his brother was returning home in an unregistered Kia Sorento (DV 5570Y) when a group of individuals attacked and kidnapped him near his gate at Nsakina. The incident was reported to the police around 10:25 p.m. the same evening.
Preliminary investigations at the scene revealed that the area where the crime occurred is a predominantly Muslim community situated close to a mosque. The report noted that Mr. Ansong and his wife, Mary Dedaa Omari, who lives abroad, share a fence wall with the mosque. It further indicated that Mrs. Omari, during her visits to Ghana, often organized prayer sessions with the community, an act that reportedly caused tensions among some youth in the area.
The police suspect that these tensions, combined with growing religious differences and perceived grievances, may have motivated the attack. The report added that the suspects, aware of the vehicle parked near the couple’s gate, might have assumed that either the wife or the husband was inside before executing the abduction.
Police investigators have since extended their enquiries to a nearby residence equipped with CCTV cameras, where video footage of the incident was retrieved and transferred onto a pen drive to aid in identifying and apprehending the culprits.
Authorities have assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to trace and rescue the victim while ensuring that those responsible for the abduction face the full rigors of the law.
