Despite beating a strong field to win the women’s 100m race in Doha, Qatar on Friday, May 16, Jamaican sprint sensation – Tia Clayton was not enthused about her poor start from the blocks.
Tia Clayton [20yrs] finished first in the 100m in a world leading time of 10.92 seconds, ahead of her twin sister – Tina Clayton who came second in 11.02 seconds with Amy Hunt of Great Britain finishing third in 11.03 seconds.
But speaking in a post race interview, Tia Clayton was not delighted with her start:
“I made a World Leading mark, but honestly I didn’t do the best possibly.”
“I didn’t do it because I couldn’t do the start that I always get, but other than that it was a great race for me.”
Despite her disappointment though, Tia was happy that she and her sister – Tina Clayton came first and second in the end.
“It is very special for me and my twin sister to finish 1st and 2nd in this event tonight. I wouldn’t say that I was nervous but I just needed to get it together.”
Tia Clayton ran the anchor legs for the Jamaican 4×100 metres relay teams that broke the world under-20 records at both the 2021 [42.94 s] and 2022 World U20 Championships [42.59 s]
Although young, Tia Clayton led team Jamaica to qualify for the 2025 World Athletics Relays which will be held in Tokyo, Japan.
